Say no to meat and dairy for November and yes to healthful, plant-based foods.
Become a Plant-Powered Man
Healthful, plant-based foods can prevent, and even reverse, common diseases in men. A plant-based (no meat, eggs, or dairy) diet can have significant positive effects on men’s health.
A plant-powered diet can:
Protect Against Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in American men. Research shows that men who consume three or more servings of low- or high-fat dairy products a day had a 141 percent higher risk for death due to prostate cancer compared to those who consumed less than one serving. Those who follow a vegan diet experienced a 35 percent lower prostate cancer risk.
- Reverse Heart Disease
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Studies show that a low-fat, plant-based diet, combined with regular exercise and a healthy overall lifestyle, can prevent, delay, and even reverse heart disease and other cardiovascular events.
- Prevent Erectile Dysfunction
A meat-heavy diet can affect blood flow and lead to sexual performance issues due to narrowed arteries, the same arteries that cause heart attacks! Don’t worry, impeded blood flow can be reversed simply by adopting a low-fat, plant-based diet and avoiding processed meats. Not only are they linked to an increased risk in colorectal cancer, they cause low-quality sperm.
- Improve Athletic Performance
Because a plant-based diet is high in carbohydrates, low in fat, and rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, it can support or improve your athletic performance. A Physicians Committee study published in the journal Nutrients found that plant-based athletes benefit from improvements in heart health, performance, and recovery.
Bacon, burgers, and chicken wings—they narrow your arteries and that means not enough blood flow downstairs where it counts. So swap that limp sausage for a carrot, and you’ll be good to go.
