L’Oréal Develops New Animal-Free Method for Cosmetic Allergen Testing

Study in a Sentence: Scientists at L’Oréal have developed a faster and more reliable method for identifying cosmetic allergens using an advanced animal-free chemical safety test.

Healthy for Humans: The ability to reliably test cosmetics for potential allergic reactions, such as contact dermatitis, is essential for ensuring consumer safety. L’Oréal’s newly developed chemical assay can identify potential allergens in cosmetic products quicker and more reliably than animal tests.

Redefining Research: Currently, most allergy testing relies on the use of animals or in vitro experiments that can take up to 24 hours. This new animal-free method assesses reactions in the skin in about an hour and provides a more in-depth insight into a chemical’s skin-irritating properties. Creating more reliable and faster alternatives in industries such as this will reduce reliance on animal testing while improving the effectiveness of safety assessments.
