Erectile Dysfunction Sign for Diabetes

Erectile dysfunction, a known marker for heart disease, may also be an indication of diabetes, according to a study published in the Annals of Family Medicine. Researchers surveyed 4,519 men for the presence of erectile dysfunction as part of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Men who had erectile dysfunction were more than twice as likely to also have diabetes, compared with men who did not have signs of erectile dysfunction. This study suggests health care professionals screen for diabetes in men who experience symptoms of erectile dysfunction, particularly during middle age.
