Cinnamon Improves Blood Sugar Control and Slows Progression of Type 2 Diabetes

Cinnamon may help control blood sugar in those with prediabetes and help reduce the onset of type 2 diabetes, according to a study published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society. Researchers compared fasting glucose in participants with prediabetes who took a cinnamon supplement or a placebo. Those who took the cinnamon supplement had more stable blood sugar levels and improved glucose tolerance than those in the placebo group. Results also showed improvements in A1c levels, a measure of blood sugar levels over 3-months’ time, and other biomarkers for type 2 diabetes which the authors note may be significant in slowing the progression of the disease.
