Vegan Diet During Pregnancy Shows No Difference in Health Outcomes for Babies

Vegan diets have sometimes been cautioned against for pregnant women, but a new study published in the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics found no difference in health outcomes for women on a vegan or omnivorous diet. Over 10,000 women in Ireland were followed from their first visit appointment through delivering. Vegan mothers had a lower BMI, but their babies were no different from omnivores in birth weight, likelihood of being born premature, nor for rates of gestational diabetes or hypertension.
