Organic Meat Not Safer Than Nonorganic Options

Organic meat contains the same amount of carcinogens if not more when compared to nonorganic meat, according to a study published online in Environmental Science and Pollution Research International. Researchers analyzed 76 samples of both organic and conventional meat, including beef, chicken, and lamb, for 33 different carcinogens and compared them to average consumption rates. All samples contained carcinogens with very small differences between organic and nonorganic meats. For certain persistent organic pollutants (POPs), results showed higher levels of contamination in organic meat, particularly lamb.
