Obesity Increases Risk for Cancer in Women

Obesity increases the risk for cancer over time, according to a study published in PLoS Medicine. Researchers observed 73,913 participants from the Women’s Health Initiative study and tracked their weight and cancer risk. Every 10-year period of obesity during adulthood increased the risk for obesity-related cancers. Postmenopausal breast and endometrial cancer risks increased the most by up to 8 percent and 37 percent, respectively. These findings suggest weight-management as an effective form of cancer prevention.
