Nutrition Education and Research Could Impact Diabetes in the Republic of Macedonia

Use of insulin injections jumped more than 50 percent over a six-year period, and the costs are unsustainable for the Republic of Macedonia, which has one of the highest rates of diabetes in Europe. The rapid rise in prevalence has paralleled dramatic increases in consumption of unnecessary calories from sugar, beef, pork, poultry, and sunflower oil. Education and research around a plant-based dietary pattern are recommended.
