More Than 90% Patient Satisfaction for Plant-Based Meals in New York City Hospitals
In 2021, New York City Health + Hospitals, the nation’s largest public hospital system, started offering plant-based meals to patients. During the initial year following implementation, the plant-based options had a 95% acceptance rate by eligible participants, and a 90% satisfaction rate. The plant-based meals also resulted in 36% lower carbon emissions and were on average $0.59 less expensive than meals containing animal products.
