Bilberry and Red Grape Juice Decreases Plasma Biomarkers of Inflammation and Tissue Damage in Older Men

Bilberry and red grape juice decreases plasma biomarkers of inflammation and tissue damage in older men, according to a study published in BMC Nutrition. Researchers compared the effects of consuming a mixed bilberry and red grape juice or a placebo juice on memory and plasma biomarkers for inflammation and tissue damage in men with memory impairment. Tissue damage and inflammation biomarkers linked to Alzheimer’s disease and other conditions decreased more in those who consumed the mixed bilberry and red grape juice than those who drank the placebo juice. An increased intake of polyphenols from the grape juice accounts for a possible mechanism for the decreased inflammation.
