Food for Life Instructor

Ellen Jaffe Jones

Ellen Jaffe Jones is a nationally ranked sprinter and as of 7/25, has placed (not just raced) in 334 5K or longer races for her age group since 2006. Someone told her at a race once that she couldn’t run on a vegan diet so she set out to set the record straight in what has now become an unmatched achievement. She almost died of a colon blockage at 28 but at 72, according to a number of tests, has the fitness of a 20-year-old. Her mom, aunt and both sisters had breast cancer, and her family was part of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene studies. She is the only adult female in her immediate family who has not had breast cancer. As a vegan runner for 45 years, her knees and everything else are fine and now as the only or one of the few in her age group, others are demanding to know her secret. As Dr. Barnard eloquently writes, vegans enjoy the benefits of an anti-inflammatory diet, and athletes in particular, typically don't get arthritis. Staying injury free is the secret.

Ellen is the author of 6 vegan health and fitness books including Eat Vegan on $4 a Day. Because of her being the only female in the 70 to 74-year-old age group at the 2022 US National Senior Games to compete in all 7 track events (and placed in 3 of them), the largest online platform of free classes for adults 55+, Get Set Up, chose Ellen as their first sponsored athlete and continues to be sponsored by them.

Ellen is a personal trainer, running and health coach. She has taught aerobics classes at LA Fitness in southwest Florida. A former 2-time Emmy-winning TV investigative and consumer reporter from Miami and St. Louis, Ellen speaks all over the US and online about the topics of her books and active aging. Ellen was part of the original Food For Life program, but her book tour took her on the road until online platforms made teaching cooking classes easier as a licensed instructor. She loves inspiring others. While she saw many reversals of diseases and conditions, her most successful story was one of her students had not been given long to live from multiple myeloma 10 years ago. She lost 120 pounds in 8 months, went into remission and is still thriving today.
