Introduction to How Foods Fight Cancer
Monday, February 9, 2026 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm

The National Cancer Institute research shows that as much as 50 percent of cancer risk may be related to diet. In this class, you will learn about food choices that will help reduce the risk of developing cancer and other chronic diseases and help fight the disease after it has been diagnosed. In addition to nutritional information, participants are treated to a demonstration of four cookout recipes during the class.

Afro-American Culinary Traditions is a series of classes designed to honor and explore the culinary history and customs of the past, offering more soulful foods and unique flavors, and inspiring and empowering people to prevent and fight chronic disease.

The series acknowledges the ancestral ties of West African foodways that were introduced to the United States through the Middle Passage, as well as the culinary traditions, such as soul food, developed by African Americans throughout their history in the Country.
