Diabetes is a major public health problem. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to complications for every part of the body, including stroke, loss of vision, heart disease, kidney failure, and various problems due to nerve damage and circulatory problems.
However, it’s never too late. There is reason for hope! Consuming plant-based foods significantly reduces the risk of developing diabetes. For individuals with diabetes, a plant-based diet can help improve blood sugar levels and prevent complications. This class will take participants through four delicious and healthful Sunday-style supper recipes.
Afro-American Culinary Traditions is a series of classes designed to honor and explore the culinary history and customs of the past, offering more soulful foods and unique flavors, and inspiring and empowering people to prevent and fight chronic disease.
The series acknowledges the ancestral ties of West African foodways that were introduced to the United States through the Middle Passage, as well as the culinary traditions, such as soul food, developed by African Americans throughout their history in the Country.
