According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. In the United States, someone dies from cardiovascular disease every 36 seconds. The most common type of heart disease in the US is coronary artery disease, killing 360,900 people in 2019. There are several risk factors that  put Americans at risk for heart disease including: diabetes, overweight, obesity, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and excessive alcohol use. There is a significant amount of evidence that uses a whole food, plant-based diet for the prevention, treatment, and in many cases reversal of heart disease. 

 

This means, the use lifestyle changes can play a role in the prevention of heart disease. This is where the use of plant-based nutrition comes into play. Food For Life: Improve your heart health; with plant-based nutrition. By taking this class, anyone in your family can prepare these meals. The class will be approximately 2.5 hours long. The class will be taught by Licensed Food for Life Instructor: Angelia Dickinson, MS, DipACLM.
