How Foods Fight Heart Disease
Friday, August 21, 2020 03:00 PM to 5:00 PM

This class will focus on the number one cause of death among Americans, heart disease.

The greatest advance in the understanding of heart disease was the discovery that this disease can be virtually eliminated by controlling lifestyle factors.

While medicine, surgeries, and transplants may be helpful for some patients, they are still not solutions to the problem and will not prevent the need for more medication and surgery. High "bad" cholesterol (LDL), high triglycerides (a type of fat), and low levels of "good" cholesterol (HDL) are among the problems that increase heart disease.

Researches have determined that a plant-based diet may be nearly as effective as some cholesterol-reducing medications. The plant-based diet has also been shown to lower blood pressure. A very low-fat, plant-based diet can actually remove the plaque that has built up in the arteries over time. And it is never too late to start that removal process!

A plant-based diet that has no cholesterol is low in saturated fat, and rich in fiber will help protect the body from heart disease and hardening of the arteries.
