Cooking To Combat COVID-19, a new online campaign from the Physicians Committee’s Food for Life program, is designed to help participants use a plant-based diet to fight hypertension, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and obesity—which are among the conditions that can make COVID-19 more severe and deadly.
The Power of Your Plate for a Healthy Weight is class four in a four-class series. In this final class we address the power of food for weight management. A vegan diet of whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits can help prevent diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other chronic diseases. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, “Appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.” Eating plant-based is a delicious way to lose weight.
