With all of the scary headlines today, there may be no better time to consider switching to a diet that can help boost your immune system and lower your risk of chronic diseases that make people more susceptible to the ravages of COVID-19.
This first in a series of four online classes will help you make colorful, scrumptious meals rich in protective compounds and immune-boosting nutrients such as beta-carotene, lycopene, vitamin C and zinc.
Instructors Nancy Travis and health coach Cindy Thompson will also explain the science behind low-fat, plant-based diets. Plant-based foods are naturally low in fat and chock-full of fiber, and they are filled with immune-boosting antioxidants and phytochemicals. These foods can prevent and sometimes even reverse diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other chronic diseases — all risk factors for developing serious complications from COVID-19. There is scientific research showing that vegetarians have approximately double the natural killer cell activity than non-vegetarians have.
- This class will be taught via the Zoom video conferencing program. The class will include an educational video, a live cooking demonstration of several recipes, interactive discussions, handouts, recipes, lots of tips and tricks — all from the comfort of your home.
- After you register, you will receive an email with a link and password for the Zoom conference. You will be able to click on the link and participate from your smartphone, notebook or computer without needing to download a program. If your computer does not have a microphone, you can ask questions via phone or by typing into a chat function. The sign-in will open 15 minutes before the class starts, so that you can test your connection if you wish.
- The classes in this series are all two-hour sessions beginning at 3 pm on Sunday afternoons, one week apart. Though you need to sign up for each class individually, they work fine as stand alone classes if you can't make the whole series.
