Dr. Breakey is a fifth-generation graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School and completed his family medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin in 1984. He achieved his ACLM board certification in lifestyle medicine in 2019. He has practiced family medicine in Ann Arbor, Mich., since 1985. He is chair of the board and head of the family medicine division for his medical group, IHA. He has followed a plant-based lifestyle himself since 1977 and serves on the board for Plant-Based Prevention of Disease (P-POD). He is also chair of the board for the Plant-Based Nutrition Support Group. He serves as medical director for IHA's Institute for Lifestyle Medicine, which is dedicated to serving over 500,000 IHA active patients with an evidence-based approach to lifestyle medicine.
