As a registered nurse since 2002, I saw the effects of the Western lifestyle on my patients' health. Over time, I felt discouraged seeing patients take more medication but continue to get sicker. A healthy plant-based lifestyle was a natural choice for me given my love for animals, concern for the environment, and enjoyment of triathlons and fitness. When I saw my husband reverse his hypertension with a plant-based diet, my enthusiasm grew. I realized few of my patients knew what true health felt like, but I didn't know how I could bring this knowledge and passion to them. When I learned about lifestyle medicine, I realized it was possible and that there was a growing interest in the medical field. In 2022, I became a board-certified family nurse practitioner. After a year in corrections medicine, I now am excited in 2023 to begin practicing in primary care where I can bring my love for a healthy lifestyle to patients who are ready to embark on a journey toward lasting health.
