Survey of Live Animals in Surgery Training

The Physicians Committee is actively surveying all general surgery residency programs in the United States and Canada to determine their training methods.

Currently:
  • 78% of responsive programs use only human-relevant training methods, like medical simulators and human cadavers.
  • 284 programs use only nonanimal training methods
  • 8 programs use live animals
