Microsensor Array May Diagnose Breast Cancer Early

Breast cancer is characterized by progressive modifications of the microenvironment of mammary tissue. Being able to monitor these tissue changes can be critical to improving clinicians’ diagnoses and designing early intervention strategies. Researchers at the University of Maryland recently developed a microsensor array that can simultaneously measure the mechanical and electrical properties of breast tissue, revealing tissue changes that occur early in the progression of breast cancer. This new device, by providing quantitative indicators, might be very useful for diagnosing breast cancer early.
