About the Research and Regulatory Affairs Team

The Physicians Committee’s Research and Regulatory Affairs team is composed of experts in human-relevant research, education, and testing methods. We collaborate with regulators and academic scientists to promote and develop those methods in order to improve human health and replace the use of animals. We engage with grassroots advocates, legislators, and the media to achieve this.

About This Career Opportunity

The Research Advocacy Coordinator will support the Physicians Committee’s efforts to replace animals in medical education and research. Essential functions and specific duties will include:

Research and Writing: Regularly gather detailed, comprehensive information and draft language to support our education and research campaigns.

  • Conduct detailed online research to support projects
  • Conduct surveys of institutions and individuals in support of ongoing and proposed projects
  • File public records requests with universities and state and federal agencies. Review and summarize the records received
  • Write correspondence, web content, fact sheets, and other campaign documents
  • Review and summarize scientific research protocols and other documents
  • Review scientific studies and other outside resources to better understand how animals are used in laboratories, what the scientific and ethical issues are, and what nonanimal methods exist

Outreach and Collaboration: Build grassroots support for our education and research programs.

  • Write email messages to Physicians Committee supporters
  • Travel on a quarterly basis to assist with special events as needed, including tabling and attending public demonstrations
  • Grow contact lists for local organizations that might support our programs and conduct outreach to them
  • Coordinate travel and accommodations for special events

This is a full-time position that may be performed remotely from any location in the United States. The Physicians Committee is headquartered in Washington, D.C.

The position level for this role is Coordinator. Coordinator salaries start at $60,000 and have a median of $64,000. A salary offer will take into consideration education, experience, and skills along with internal and external reference points.

We are looking for a professional with at least three years of experience with program management, campaign management or advocacy. The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Enthusiasm for the Physicians Committee’s mission to end animal experiments
  • The ability to communicate accurately, persuasively, clearly, and concisely with various audiences
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and follow projects through to completion in a fast-paced environment
