Diabetes Program Coordinator

Washington, D.C., primary care medical clinic seeks a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator, or other professional with experience running a diabetes self-management education and support program to oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a new DSMES program with a special emphasis on plant-based diets.

This is a part-time position.

Founded by Neal Barnard, M.D., president of the nonprofit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, the Barnard Medical Center is a new model for medical care that integrates plant-based nutrition education and disease prevention into providing top-of-the-line medical care. The Barnard Medical Center takes advantage of years of research conducted by the Physicians Committee research team and other researchers, showing how a new approach to medicine and nutrition could help prevent and reverse serious health problems.

About this Career Opportunity

The Diabetes Care Coordinator will manage the DSMES program by arranging and coordinating all activities associated with this service including the maintaining of all of the relevant documentation associated with keeping the DSMES accreditation. Examples of specific duties include the following:

  • Market the program to medical office staff, patients, and referral sources
  • Work with our publications and communications departments and the American Diabetes Association to create and approve materials
  • Maintain contact with patients or front desk staff to help ensure student attendance and patient awareness
  • Participate in professional development related to DSMES

This is a part-time position (20-25 hours per week) located at the Barnard Medical Center in Washington, D.C. (Friendship Heights on Metro’s Red Line).

The ideal candidate will be a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator, or other professional with experience running a DSMES program.
