Medical Student Consultant for Survey of Residency Programs

Seeking a medical student (M1-3) with strong communication and organizational skills to conduct a survey of surgery residency programs remotely by phone for 20 to 40 hours in July 2020.

About the Physicians Committee

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is dedicated to saving and improving human and animal lives through plant-based diets and ethical and effective scientific research. Our vision is to create a healthier world through a new emphasis on plant-based nutrition, and scientific research and medical training conducted ethically, without using animals. We invite you to visit our YouTube channel, our website, and Physicians Committee president Dr. Neal Barnard’s blog.

About Our Animals in Education Programs

The Physicians Committee’s Animals in Education team works to improve medical training by replacing the use of animals with modern, human-relevant methods. The team does so in a multifaceted way, educating faculty at universities and hospitals nationwide, engaging local activists and supporters, and promoting our work through traditional and social media.

About This Consulting Opportunity

The consultant will call general surgery residency programs (with guidance from a script) to determine what training methods are being used and will summarize responses. The data will inform our efforts to ensure that all general surgery residency programs in the United States train residents without using animals.

Who We’re Looking For

In addition to being a current medical student (M1-3), the ideal candidate for this project will have strong communication and organizational skills. If you have these qualities and are passionate about the Physicians Committee's mission to improve medical training by replacing the use of animals with modern, human-relevant methods, we'd like to hear from you.

Terms

The project is scheduled to start in July and is expected to take 20 to 40 hours to complete. While the work must be done during weekday business hours, the consultant can set their own schedule. The work will be done remotely by phone. Compensation will be $17 per hour.

How to Apply

Please send your resume and a brief statement about your interest in our mission and this project to careers@pcrm.org. We look forward to hearing from you! Applications are due by July 13.
