PCRM’s 2026 Achievements
- Made a GIANT step toward shutting down the country’s largest primate lab when, in February, thanks to a sustained campaign from PCRM and our members, the Oregon National Primate Research Center agreed to negotiate a transition toward closure and potential conversion into a primate sanctuary!
- Put a stop to Brown University’s deadly use of animals for training emergency medicine physicians.
- Helped the Whitcomb family farm in Vermont phase out their dairy operation in favor of growing crops as part of PCRM’s Convert to Crops program which helps farmers promote fruits, veggies, and nuts while phasing out animal agriculture—a win for animals, people, and the planet.
PCRM’s 2025 Achievements
- Following over a decade of PCRM efforts, both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced groundbreaking plans to reduce animal testing and research and prioritize human-based methods!
- Pressured Colorado State University to shut down its human nutrition research study that planned to kill 17,766 animals.
- Persuaded BOTH St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson to replace the use of animals to train surgeons with superior, nonanimal methods that replicate human anatomy.
- Stopped Wake Forest University from using monkeys in a medical training course before it even began.
- Hosted our 13th annual International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine, gathering the world’s leading experts on the power of plant-based nutrition to improve human health and save animals.
- Together with international partners, PCRM urged the Dutch Senate to phase out funding for primate experiments at the Biomedical Primate Research Center, the largest primate research facility in Europe.
- Led efforts to pass key provisions of the SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act, which requires the FDA to consider and allow evidence from nonanimal tests and real-world human data in the evaluation of sunscreens and other topical over-the-counter products.

Since 1985, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s lifesaving work has resulted in major victories and accomplishments for animals, people, and the planet:
ALL medical schools in the U.S. and Canada stopped using live animals to train medical students.
After PCRM presented the Power Plate, a healthful, plant-based dietary guide, the USDA unveiled its strikingly similar guide, MyPlate.
The NIH stopped all its experiments on chimpanzees.
Thousands of medical students and health professionals learn about plant-based nutrition at our annual International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine.
California banned the sale of cosmetics tested on animals.
The Environmental Protection Agency pledged to stop testing chemicals on ALL mammals by 2035.
Our Food for Life plant-based cooking classes are taught by 300+ instructors in over 45 U.S. states and 20 countries.
PCRM’s clinical research department has published dozens of peer-reviewed studies proving the health benefits of a plant-based diet.
ALL pediatrics residency programs in the U.S. and Canada stopped training on live animals.
