Relish is proud to partner with local PCRM instructor Elaine Jumes to bring the award-winning Food For Life program back to Sheboygan. This series of 4 classes provides excellent resources to learn how to use food and plant-based nutritional tools to reduce your weight and regain control of your gut health and blood pressure. This series will be offered on 4 consecutive Wednesdays this fall.

Understand how to prepare cancer-fighting meals loaded with antioxidants and phytochemicals, high-fiber and low-fat foods, and healthy dairy alternatives. The series also provides information on planning meals and maintaining a healthy weight. Enjoy cooking demonstrations and taste delicious, healthful dishes in a supportive group setting.

Despite a wealth of scientific data, most people remain unaware of how they can reduce their risk of developing cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, only about 10% of cancer cases are linked to genetics; the remaining 90% or more stem from environmental and lifestyle factors and are potentially preventable. The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 reports that the leading risk factors contributing to global cancer rates are modifiable. These include tobacco and alcohol use, excess body weight, and dietary risks including diets low in fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and fiber, and high in red meat, processed meat, and sodium. Therefore, factors within our control, like diet and exercise, play an important role in cancer risk reduction. Yet many people are unaware of this connection. Faced with these startling statistics, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine developed the Food for Life: Cancer Project curriculum to offer a new direction in battling this disease.
