Many people are unaware of how to reduce their cancer risk despite abundant scientific data. The National Cancer Institute notes that about 90% of cancer cases are linked to environmental and lifestyle factors, rather than genetics. The leading modifiable risk factors include tobacco and alcohol use, excess weight, and poor diet. To address this, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine created the Food for Life: Cancer Project curriculum, a cooking class featuring all plant-based foods. It educates participants on how certain foods and nutrients impact cancer growth while offering simple, nutritious recipes for home preparation. These classes target cancer survivors, their families, and individuals interested in prevention, but are not designed for those currently in treatment.
