Join doctors and dietitians for an online, 12-week, plant-based diabetes reversal program and study!

Receive comprehensive support and education to investigate whether the study program can help reverse type 2 diabetes with a plant-based diet, led by Neal Barnard, MD, Vanita Rahman, MD, Shannon Gray, RD, and Roxanne Becker, MBChB. The research team will guide you through science, practical applications, and recipes, with ample time for personal support.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will the online study program work?
  1. After registering on the website, the study team will call you to complete the standard screening questions to determine if you qualify for the study. If you do not qualify, you may still participate as a non-study participant, meaning you will have access to all the same resources and support except for the labs.
  2. Informed consent: If you qualify for the study, the study team will email the informed consent form through DocuSign and provide you with an opportunity to speak one-on-one via telephone or an online meeting with our investigating team for any further questions that you may have. You will also be required to provide information to the study team regarding your medical history.
  3. After you sign the informed consent document, the study team will ship the scale, books, and lab request forms to the address you provided.
  4. All weekly meetings will be held online through Zoom. You will also be required to send your weekly weight to the experts to track your progress.
  5. You will be required to have your labs drawn at any official LabCorp facility before and after the completion of the study program.
What if I am unable to attend all 12 sessions? Are the sessions recorded?

To protect the privacy of all participants and to foster real-time engagement, we encourage you to attend all 12 sessions so that you get the greatest benefit from the study program. However, we do understand that at times you may have to miss a class. If you miss a class, we encourage you to attend the alternative session for the week. We will also provide you with the presentation materials from the missed session and answer any questions. However, classes are not recorded to protect the privacy of the participants and will not be available to view on demand.

How is this study program different from the Fight Diabetes With Food Program?

At the Physicians Committee, we offer many types of programs to accommodate our participants’ needs, preferences, and schedules. Here’s a brief description of each program:

  1. Diabetes Reversal Online Program and Study is an online research program that will run over 12 weeks. We will check participants’ A1C and cholesterol levels before and after the program. There will be 12 weekly classes that will last approximately 60 minutes and will include nutrition education and live interaction among the research team and participants. Each class will cover a different topic related to nutrition and health. All participants will have access to personal check-ins with the study experts and will receive nutrition books and a digital scale to track their body weight.
  2. The Fight Diabetes With Food Program is an eight-week online program with weekly sessions. Each session provides nutrition education. It does not include laboratory tests, one-on-one check-ins with the program team, a digital scale, or books. Participants are not able to see each other or engage in real-time conversations with the program experts.
Research studies are usually free—why is there a fee for this one?

The fee covers the cost of the nutrition education sessions, laboratory testing, one-on-one check-in with the study experts, digital scale, and books. The program has been structured as a study so that we may order laboratory tests and monitor clinical outcomes.

What is your refund policy, and can I pay in installments?

We are currently only accepting single payments. We do not offer refunds for cancellations or missed classes.

How many participants do you expect in the program?

The research study will involve several cohorts, and we expect to have anywhere from 15 to 20 participants in each Zoom class.

Can family or friends join me for the online sessions?

We encourage you to invite your family members or friends to sit alongside you for the online sessions. However, we will not be tracking their weight, laboratory tests, or health outcomes.

Can I get handouts for the program or classes?

We will provide a resource portal where you can download class handouts and other helpful resources.
