Nutrition Education Specialist
Anna Herby, DHSc, RD, CDCES, is the nutrition education specialist for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting preventive medicine, especially better nutrition, and higher standards in research. She is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator with a doctorate in health sciences.
Dr. Herby leads education programs that advance evidence-based nutrition strategies for chronic disease prevention, including the National Diabetes Program. Her work also focuses on facilitating continuing-education curricula for healthcare professionals and partnering with Native American communities to promote culturally appropriate nutrition strategies for diabetes prevention and management. She also assists with clinical research studies, supporting participants to adopt and maintain a low-fat vegan diet.
Her publications include work on hospital nutrition and the health implications of dairy and nondairy beverages. With prior experience as a clinical dietitian, she’s helped to develop practical resources for healthcare facilities transitioning menus to include more plant-based options through the Physicians Committee’s Healthy Hospital Program.
