Food for Life Instructor

Brooke Bussard, M.D.

Swapping her white coat for workout gear, Dr. Brooke Bussard blends her training from the University of Virginia School of Medicine with decades of experience as a health coach, personal trainer, and plant-based nutritionist. After leaving her residency in Internal Medicine, Brooke discovered her true passion: prevention over prescriptions.

A member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, Dr. Bussard teaches people how to eat a plant-based diet to prevent and even reverse heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and other chronic conditions. She thrives on watching her clients transform from confused consumers to empowered eaters who understand the power of food as medicine.

Brooke’s approach helps people rethink what health really looks like. By focusing on fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes, her clients experience increased energy, clearer skin, better digestion — and discover that weight loss and maintenance don’t require counting calories or living with restriction.

Author of Chew on This: Bite-Sized Stories about Nutrition and Outsmarting Menopause: Conversations about Metabolism, Muscle, Mood, and More, Brooke also created the Quick Cooks app to make healthy eating fast, fun, and sustainable. Her first website, Plants Over Animals, is packed with plant-based resources, recipes, and insights for anyone exploring a compassionate lifestyle. Her client-centered site, Brooke’s Balanced Blueprint, focuses on health and fitness coaching and features a blog full of practical tips to help people build strength, eat well, and thrive through every stage of life.
