Translating Evidence into Plant-Based Practice: Themes from the New Academy Position Paper
Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, 1-2pm Eastern
Join the Physicians Committee RD team as we unpack the evidence and conclusions from the Academy’s paper on vegetarian diets.
With the release of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ new position paper on vegetarian and vegan diets, it is essential for dietitians to be well-versed in the evidence supporting plant-based eating patterns and confident in applying it to their practice. This presentation will highlight applications of the underlying evidence for meaningfully improving patients' health outcomes.
Key topics from the position paper to be discussed include:
- Key nutrients: vitamin D, protein, iron, and calcium.
- Interpreting the plant-based diet index.
- Vegan diets for special populations.

Anna Herby, DHSc, RD, CDCES; Emily Perryman, MS, RD; Noah Praamsma, MS, RDN; and Stephanie McBurnett, RDN.
