Plant-based foods can help you improve your health, manage your weight and avoid chronic diseases like high cholesterol and diabetes. But, many people struggle with how to get more plants into their diets. The “KICKSTART YOUR HEALTH – Plant-based Cooking Class” will teach you the health-promoting benefits of plants, and a practical and easy approach to eating more plants. The recipes in these classes were created by culinary experts and use commonly available ingredients, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans. The recipes are also simple to make and easy to incorporate into your routine. This class is a combination of hands-on activity and cooking demonstrations. These classes follows the science-based Food for Life program developed by the Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine, and is taught by Granetta Coleman, a certified Food for Life Instructor with Rooted Dish. This is a 2-part class and total cost is $60 for YMCA members and $70 for non-YMCA members.
Menu Day 1 on 2/29 from 6pm-9pm: Green Monster Smoothie, Braised Kale, Yes-You-Can Black Bean Chili, Green Apple and Cinnamon Oatmeal, and Chickpea Salad with Orange Miso Dressing
Menu Day 2 on 3/7 from 6pm-9pm: Tofu Scramble, Mexican Kale & Blue Corn Salad, Ginger Noodles and Fruited Breakfast Quinoa
