Presentation: The Love/Avon Army of Women: A New Approach to Breast Cancer Research

Susan M. Love, M.D., is president of the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation and clinical professor of surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles.

The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation works to eradicate breast cancer and improve the quality of women's health through innovative research, education, and advocacy. The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation and the Avon Foundation for Women, a global leader in breast cancer research, joined forces to launch the Love/Avon Army of Women.

The Love/Avon Army of Women has two key goals:

  • To recruit one million healthy women of every age and ethnicity, including breast cancer survivors and women at high-risk for the disease, to partner with breast cancer researchers and directly participate in the research that will eradicate breast cancer once and for all.
  • To challenge the scientific community to expand its current focus to include breast cancer prevention research conducted on healthy women.

Dr. Love is also founder and a member of the board of directors of the National Breast Cancer Coalition and on the board of scientific advisors for the International Breast Cancer Research Foundation. She is also the author of Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book and had published in more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, including Cancer, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, and Breast Cancer Research.

Dr. Love received her Bachelor of Science at Fordham University, her medical degree at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and her Master of Business Administration from University of California, Los Angeles.
