Concerns About the March of Dimes

Sample Letter to March of Dimes' Celebrity Supporters

Please send us any responses you receive.

Dear [Insert Celebrity’s Name Here]:

I know that you do much to support charitable causes, and I applaud your dedication to improving children’s lives. As a celebrity spokesperson for the March of Dimes, you might be interested to learn that the charity has not received the Humane Charity Seal of Approval, because it continues to fund cruel animal experiments that have been unsuccessful in helping human babies.

Although the March of Dimes spends millions of dollars annually on animal experiments, rates for most birth defects continue to rise. This can be partially attributed to MOD’s reliance on animal tests, which are not only ineffective in helping mothers and babies – they’re also shockingly cruel. The charity has poured countless charitable donations into torturing animals: brain damaging and freezing newborn ferrets, giving alcohol and cocaine to pregnant animals, sewing closed the eyes of kittens, and deliberately injuring the lungs of newborn lambs, to name just a few.

The most important progress in birth defects research has come from human-based studies. Research studying human populations has been responsible for countless advancements in understanding the causes of birth defects, including identifying the causes of SIDS, fetal alcohol syndrome, the role of folic acid, the effects of lead and mercury in development.

As you decide which charitable causes you wish to promote, please consider that there are charities that are successfully improving the health of babies without harming animals. Easter Seals and Birth Defect Research for Children are just two examples of effective, cruelty-free charities that work to advance children’s health. For a complete list of health charities that do not fund animal experiments, please visit www.HumaneSeal.org.

I hope you will consider these issues when making decisions about your charitable work. Thank you for your concern, your generosity, and your commitment to making a difference.

Sincerely,

[Insert Your Name Here]
