March of Dimes Sponsor Campaign
One way we can clean up
the March of Dimes is by educating its corporate sponsors. Once
sponsors learn about the extent and nature of the animal experiments
funded by the March of Dimes (see an overview)
and the public disapproval of this activity, some end their March
of Dimes sponsorship. Others restrict donations to non-animal programs.
For example, a Vons Supermarket
in Arcadia, California, replaced cash register donation boxes benefiting
the March of Dimes with boxes supporting Easter Seals. Over the
past few years, we have learned that top national March of Dimes
sponsors, including Kmart, Publix Supermarkets, Sara Lee, and PepsiCo,
have decided to restrict any future March of Dimes donations to
programs that do not involve animals.
Information about the top national
sponsors of the March of Dimes, as well as local
sponsors is available below. Please contact these companies
to say that you disapprove of their support of the March of Dimes
and animal experiments. Explain that you will not buy their products
unless they discontinue this support. Be sure to point out the existence
of cruelty-free alternatives: many health charities have been awarded
the Humane Charity Seal of
Approval.
If you would like to include a List of Approved Charities along with your letters, contact us and we will send you multiple printed copies. If you decide to call or e-mail companies, please be polite and informative.
You can use PCRM's sample letter
to March of Dimes' sponsors to help.

Local
Sponsors
Local businesses are often major sponsors of March of Dimes events.
In an effort to reach as many sponsors as possible, PCRM has developed
a database of local sponsors, organized by state. If you know of
any local businesses sponsoring March of Dimes activities, such
as the annual WalkAmerica® fundraiser, please contact
us. We will add them to the database. You can then check the database to see who in your
community is supporting the March of Dimes, and order sponsor packs to urge these businesses
to sponsor cruelty-free birth-defects charities instead.
