Sample Letter to Medical Schools Still Using Live Animal Labs
Dear Dean [Name],
As a concerned individual, I urge an immediate end to the practice of using live animals as a teaching tool in your medical school. The vast majority of medical schools have ended this barbaric practice. It is not only cruel to animals; it also contradicts one of the central ideals of medicine, which focuses on saving lives, rather than wasting them.
We live in an age of astonishing technology. Simulators, computerized programs and manikins are rapidly replacing animals in medical and veterinary colleges around the country. Additionally, schools like Harvard have devised innovative programs that bring students into operating rooms alongside surgeons. These alternatives are cheaper, more effective, and more humane. There is no longer any justification for killing animals in the name of medical education. It should stop now.
