Lance Armstrong Foundation Goes on Location—to PCRM

PCRM’s new affiliate, The Cancer Project, is one of 15 nonprofits selected by the Lance Armstrong Foundation for inclusion in an upcoming video, “Stories of Impact.” Filmmaker Wilson Waggoner and his team spent a day in late August at The Cancer Project's D.C. headquarters, interviewing staff, cooking instructors, and patients talking about the impact and influence of the classes. The goal of these classes is to teach people how healthy food can help them prevent and treat certain cancers.

Cara Liberatore, a mountain climbing guide, athlete, and Cancer Project instructor from Montana, flew to D.C. to share her story with the filmmakers. A breast cancer survivor who is teaching the Food for Life classes throughout the Rocky Mountain corridor, Liberatore credits a healthy, plant-based diet with helping her pursue her active life.

Other Cancer Project “stars” include Don Hibbard, a prostate cancer survivor from Maryland; Karen Marinov, a breast cancer survivor from Virginia; and Sandra Mederos, a cooking instructor from Northern Virginia. Cancer Project outreach coordinator Brandi Redo, managing director Jennifer Reilly, R.D., and Cancer Project president Neal Barnard, M.D., also participated in the filming.

The film will be completed by the end of the year.
