PCRM Launches Redesigned Low-Carb Diet Registry

Healthy, Complex Carbohydrates

Low-carb went on a crash diet in 2005. Dogged by controversy over health concerns, these meat-heavy, high-fat diets plunged in popularity. But the Atkins Diet and similar eating plans still appeal to some people desperate to lose weight.

Because dieters deserve to know what effects going low-carb may have on their health, PCRM’s nutritionists and physicians recently launched a redesigned version of the Low-Carb Diet Registry.

The registry, available online at www.AtkinsDietAlert.org, allows dieters to report health complications or other experiences related to low-carbohydrate, high-protein, or other weight-loss diets. And it now features a new research tool: The Diet History Questionnaire, an innovative food frequency questionnaire created by the National Cancer Institute.

The Diet History Questionnaire consists of 124 food items and includes both portion size and dietary supplement questions, so it may offer valuable new insight into the health conditions and consumption patterns of people who have undertaken low-carb diets. And because the design of the questionnaire was based on cognitive research findings, it is easy to use.
