New PSA Champions Healthy Vegetarian Diets

For a nation concerned about pharmaceutical safety in the wake of the Vioxx scandal, it’s a welcome message: “Finally! A prescription with side effects you want,” says a new print public service announcement from The Cancer Project. “Research shows that fruits, vegetables, and other low-fat vegetarian foods may help prevent cancer and even improve survival rates.”

These “Prescription for Health” public service announcements are the latest public education initiative from The Cancer Project, a PCRM affiliate that advances cancer prevention and survival through nutrition education and research.

In 2005, PSAs from PCRM and The Cancer Project hit radio and television stations across the country. These ads, which featured PCRM physicians and compassionate celebrities such as Sir Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin, reached hundreds of thousands of consumers with important news: Avoiding meat and dairy products and choosing healthy vegetarian foods can help reduce the risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer.

Want to help spread the word about vegetarian diets? You can help us place “Prescription for Health ” in your local newspapers and magazines. You might also consider contacting your local radio station or cable station about our TV and radio PSAs. See all of our PSAs here.
