Star-Studded Celebration Marks PCRM’s 20th Anniversary
On
April 16, Alec Baldwin, Emmylou Harris, Alicia Silverstone, Daryl
Hannah, and Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock will
join hundreds of PCRM members and some of America’s leading
physicians at a gala event in Washington, D.C., to celebrate PCRM’s
founding.
Highlights of the 20th anniversary will include a presentation
on a groundbreaking new insulin assay developed by PCRM scientists,
the debut of a public service announcement about cancer prevention
narrated by Academy Award–winning actor Sir Anthony Hopkins,
and presentation of the Benjamin Spock Award for Compassion in Medicine
by Mary Morgan, widow of the late pediatrician.
Twenty years ago, president Neal Barnard, M.D., established PCRM
to address the near-absence of preventive medicine and nutrition
in American medicine and the continued unethical use of animals
in research laboratories, as well as controversial human experiments.
Since then, PCRM has become a major voice on the international
scene, speaking out against cruel experiments and promoting a more
compassionate and innovative approach to medicine.
To order a copy of PCRM’s anniversary video, “Good
Medicine/Ethical Research,” which profiles some of PCRM’s
work over the last 20 years, please contact Debbi Miller at dmiller@pcrm.org.
The video is available on DVD or VHS for a $3.00 shipping and handling
fee.
