Doctors’ Group Publishes New Cookbook of Exotic Vegetarian Recipes
Proceeds to Support Nonprofit’s Research and Educational Efforts

Washington, D.C.— The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine announces the release today of its second collection of gourmet vegetarian recipes, Best in the World II: Healthful Recipes from Exclusive and Out-of-the-Way Restaurants.

Compiled by PCRM’s Nutrition Department and edited by staff dietitian Jen Keller, R.D., the hardcover volume includes 58 recipes and features such epicurean delights as Asparagus Risotto and Wild Mushroom Curry. The book features delicacies from acclaimed restaurants around the world, including Millennium in San Francisco, the Taj Mahal Hotel in Lucknow, India, and Restaurant Le Rive Droite in Nice, France.

Proceeds from book sales will go to PCRM’s general fund, which supports the nonprofit’s clinical research and educational efforts. The book is available for $11.95 through PCRM’s Web site at www.pcrm.org and through the PCRM Marketplace at 1-888-260-8458. The original Best in the World was published in 1998 and also sells for $11.95.

PCRM president Neal Barnard, M.D., conceived of the series as a way to show the public that gourmet food can be as healthful as it is delicious. All the dishes in the collection meet PCRM’s highest nutritional standards, meaning they are both low in fat and vegan (they contain no animal products). As Jen Keller, R.D., says, “These recipes offer more than a delicious meal; they all come with a physician’s stamp of approval.”

Journalists: For a review copy, please contact PCRM communications director Ms. Simon Chaitowitz at 202-686-2210, ext. 309, or simonc@pcrm.org.

Founded in 1985, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is a nonprofit health organization that promotes preventive medicine, especially good nutrition. PCRM also conducts clinical research studies, opposes unethical human experimentation, and promotes alternatives to animal research.
