Dulcie Ward, R.D.

Dulcie Ward, R.D., is a staff nutritionist for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting preventive medicine, especially better nutrition, and higher standards in research.

As a staff nutritionist, Ms. Ward assists with nutrition outreach and promoting healthy vegetarian diets. She researches and promotes the health of all children through the Healthy School Lunch Program and coordinates the Golden Carrot Awards, which are given to foodservice professionals who have an exceptional impact on the health of children in schools.

Ms. Ward completed her Registered Dietitian credential in the fall of 2005, adding clinical nutrition experience to her formal schooling. Ms. Ward received her Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. During her undergraduate work, Ms. Ward received the American Dietetic Association’s Carolyn Sebastinelli Memorial Scholarship.

Ms. Ward completed her dietetic internship at the University of Virginia Health Systems in Charlottesville, Va. During her internship, Ms. Ward screened, assessed, and educated patients in various clinical areas and provided medical nutrition therapy to patients. She developed patient education materials and counseled patients in the Outpatient Nutrition Center, Renal Dialysis Unit, Diabetes Outpatient, Virginia Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program, and long-term care facilities. Ms. Ward also presented nutrition lectures to community and intern classes and provided in-service training to cafeteria staff and catering associates. 

Before coming to PCRM, Ms. Ward worked as a clinical dietitian at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, and at Creative Family Solutions in Staunton, Va., where she helped developmentally disabled clients meet their nutrition goals. Ms. Ward has also volunteered with the Canton-Potsdam Hospital and the WIC Program of Tompkin’s County in New York.

Ms. Ward is a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club and is certified in first-aid and CPR.
