Caroline Trapp, M.S.N., A.P.R.N., B.C.-ADM, C.D.E.

Caroline Trapp, M.S.N., A.P.R.N., B.C.-ADM, C.D.E., is director of diabetes education and care with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting preventive medicine, especially better nutrition, and higher standards in research. She is also a nurse practitioner specializing in the care of people with diabetes at Premier Internists, a Division of the Millennium Medical Group, P.C., in Southfield, Mich.

As PCRM’s director of diabetes education and care, Ms. Trapp manages a variety of diabetes prevention and reversal initiatives, including the development and distribution of resources for consumers and health care providers. She creates continuing medical education programs and patient education materials for health care professionals. Ms. Trapp serves as a forum moderator for The Get-Healthy Club, an online interactive nutrition discussion and support group for people with diabetes. She also manages PCRM’s diabetes resources Web site.

Ms. Trapp launched the Food for Life to Prevent and Reverse Diabetes classes, which teach proper nutrition, behavioral skills, and diabetes self-care methods. Ms. Trapp is currently developing diabetes education classes featuring cooking demonstrations that will eventually be held nationwide.

Ms. Trapp received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She received her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Ms. Trapp is board-certified in adult primary care, advanced diabetes management, and diabetes education. She has worked with people with diabetes for more than 20 years and continues to see patients one day a week.

Ms. Trapp gives presentations and lectures on clinical practice and the effect of dietary changes on diabetes to universities, nursing conferences, and various health care associations. In honor of her outstanding work, Ms. Trapp was named Diabetes Advocate of the Year by the American Diabetes Association in 2001.

Ms. Trapp lives in Michigan.
