Upcoming Clinical Trial of Low-Fat, Vegan Diet for Type 2 Diabetes

Next week's issue of Newsweek describes an upcoming clinical trial testing the effect of a low-fat, vegan diet on type 2 diabetes. The study, which will be conducted by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, the George Washington University, and the University of Toronto, randomly assigns 68 individuals with type 2 diabetes to either a low-fat, vegan diet or a diet based on American Diabetes Association guidelines, while holding exercise constant. Recruitment begins September 2003.
