PigHelp Stop Tulane’s Deadly Pig Lab
Today, physicians are bringing attention to Tulane University School of Medicine’s cruel and ineffective use of live pigs in a trauma training course. At a peaceful demonstration, they are presenting a petition signed by nearly 15,000 concerned citizens that asks Tulane to replace the use of animals in the course with human-based alternatives. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have had tremendous success spreading the message about health issues related to diet and nutrition. Now, the couple is asking Congress to fight childhood obesity and related chronic diseases by passing the Healthy School Meals Act, H.R. 4870. Now, she’s urging lawmakers to help scientists find a cure for hepatitis C—a disease she’s battling—without experimenting on chimpanzees. She’s calling on Congress to ban invasive chimpanzee experiments and support modern, human-based research methods. rabbit Council on Humane Giving Launches Humane Companies Program
Companies gave $14.5 billion to charities in 2008, according to a report by the Giving Institute. A portion is given to health charities that ultimately use it to fund animal experiments. But the Council on Humane Giving has launched a Humane Companies program to encourage corporations to direct their donations to humane charities, to earmark them for nonanimal research, or to fund alternatives development. Hot Dog Billboard Turner Field Billboard Warns Braves Fans of Cancer-Hot Dog Link
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Americans typically consume 7 billion hot dogs—818 each second. But a huge billboard near Atlanta’s Turner Field warns baseball fans that chowing down on hot dogs as they watch the games could seriously damage their health. The billboard is sponsored by the Cancer Project, a PCRM affiliate, which also sent a letter asking the stadium to place warning labels at hot dogs stands. View Billboard >

Many sunscreens, lawn-care treatments, and other products used to make your summer safe and enjoyable are not safe for animals. Often, these products have been tested using painful animal experiments—even though such tests don’t guarantee the products are safe for humans. But Congress is now considering legislation that would require the adoption of crucial reforms to protect human health and encourage the development of more nonanimal chemical tests.
