New Year's 21-Day Nutrition Program Features Celebrity Counselors
Millions of people will start diets on New Year’s Day. But many of those weight-loss plans aren’t healthy or sustainable. That’s why PCRM physicians and dietitians are teaming up with Hollywood celebrities, star athletes, and one of Oprah’s favorite chefs to launch the 21-Day Vegan Kickstart. The online program will provide all the support you need to start 2010 with a healthy plant-based diet.
But weight loss isn’t the only health benefit of joining the Kickstart. A vegan diet of whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits can help prevent diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other chronic diseases. According to the American Dietetic Association, “Appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.”
Starting Jan. 1, the Kickstart will give you the tools that you need for an appropriately planned vegan diet. For three weeks, you’ll receive a daily e-mail message with nutrition advice from PCRM dietitians, as well as tips and inspiration from celebrity diet counselors. Celebrity Kickstart coaches include:
- actress Alicia Silverstone;
- four-time NBA champion John Salley;
- Oprah's chef Tal Ronnen;
- actress Marilu Henner;
- best-selling author Kathy Freston;
- vegan firefighter Rip Esselstyn;
- nutrition researcher Neal Barnard, M.D.; and
- many other celebrities and well-known nutrition experts.
Daily messages will also include a breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu, nutrition webcasts, and a chance to win coupons redeemable at PCRM’s Marketplace. The message will also contain links to the Kickstart Web site, where you will find a 21-day meal plan, an interactive vegan restaurant guide, and a community forum where you will get the support of dietitians and other Kickstarters who will help you make sustainable, healthful dietary changes.
Register for the Kickstart today at 21DayKickstart.org. Then ask everyone you know to sign up to experience the benefits of a vegan diet.
