PCRM Announces Atkins “Trade-in” Program
The low-carb fad is going bust, thanks in part to PCRM’s educational campaign about the many health risks associated with the fad diet. And when the company filed for bankruptcy in early August, PCRM launched a new “low-carb swap” program for any disillusioned dieters still trying to lose weight this risky way.
Modeled after gun buy-back programs, PCRM’s new initiative offers a free 16-page Vegetarian Starter Kit in exchange for any low-carb book or food product mailed to PCRM’s office. If you have friends or patients still following the Atkins diet, please encourage them to mail in their low-carb products for a Vegetarian Starter Kit.
PCRM’s Lawsuit to Continue
Jody Gorran, the Florida businessman who developed a life-threatening artery blockage after more than two years on the Atkins Diet, will continue his lawsuit against Atkins Nutritionals despite the company’s recent bankruptcy filing. A successful businessman who is not suing for financial gain, Gorran is seeking warning labels on all Atkins products. PCRM’s legal team represents Gorran.
Gorran argues that the Atkins Diet caused him to develop severe coronary disease including dramatically elevated cholesterol levels, crushing chest pains, and a potentially fatal arterial blockage requiring an angioplasty and stent. PCRM maintains a registry for dieters like Gorran who believe they’ve sustained health injuries from low-carb diets.
