Statement of John J. Pippin, M.D., F.A.C.C., director of academic affairs for the Physicians Committee, in response to U.S. Rep. Jim Moran’s Retirement:
“It’s a better world for humans and animals alike, thanks to U.S. Rep. Jim Moran, who retired this week. The commonsense legislation that he sponsored—The BEST Practices Act, the Great Ape Protection Act, the Safeguard our Food Exports Act—aimed to end wasteful experiments and practices that needlessly harm and kill animals and take a toll on human lives and wallets.
Although his well-deserved retirement comes as bittersweet news, we can be thankful that through his personal and political beliefs, Moran not only helped raise awareness about the dangers of animal testing, he advanced technology that saved human lives.”
Founded in 1985, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is a nonprofit health organization that promotes preventive medicine, conducts clinical research, and encourages higher standards for ethics and effectiveness in research.
