Physician Profile: Daran Haber, M.D.
At the busy Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, New Jersey, Daran
Haber, M.D., tackles pain. With fellowships from Albert Einstein
College of Medicine and Yale University, and board-certified in
anesthesia and pain management, Dr. Haber provides anesthesia for
surgical cases as well as labor and delivery, and treats patients
with intractable back pain, nerve pain, and other chronic pain syndromes.
He is also an instructor for Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Dr. Haber is acutely aware of ethical issues in science and medicine.
In June 2004, he testified before the New Jersey State Assembly
Education Committee on behalf of a bill guaranteeing a student’s
right not to dissect animals, and published his viewpoint in letters
to the Christian Science Monitor and elsewhere. As Dr. Haber has
repeatedly pointed out, the use of animals in secondary and medical
school education is unnecessary and may be emotionally traumatic
to the students it is intended to instruct and inspire.
When PCRM filmed its new round of television advertisements on
diet, health, cancer prevention, and childhood obesity, Dr. Haber
lent his expertise and even his acting talents, appearing in three
of the television ads, which debut in late 2004.
