Activists in more than 100 cities nationwide distributed nearly 60,000 fliers at the March of Dimes' annual WalkAmerica fund-raiser, calling for the charity to stop funding animal experiments. The fliers featured former United Fund poster child for cerebral palsy research, Lawrence Carter-Long, advocating human-centered approaches to preventing and treating developmental defects. To heighten awareness, airplane banners reading, "March of Dimes: Stop Animal Experiments," flew over the events in Rockville, Md., Cincinnati, San Diego, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco.

In Cincinnati, the March of Dimes hired skydivers to kick off their WalkAmerica event, but the PCRM airplane banner stole their thunder and focused attention on the disturbing animal experiments of the March of Dimes.
